Homemade Apple Crisp
This homemade apple crisp is the perfect holiday dessert to fill your home with warmth and cheer. Imagine the scent of cinnamon, nutmeg, and sweet apples filling the air as it bakes—just like the holidays should smell! Start by tossing tender, tart apples with a sprinkle of festive spices, then top them with a golden, buttery crumble made of oats and brown sugar. As it bakes, the crisp becomes a cozy, caramelized treat that’s just the right balance of soft and crunchy. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a dessert that feels like a holiday hug. Directions

Ingredients:

  • 6 apples 
  • 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats (quick oats can be used, but it may have a slightly different texture)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 cup melted butter ( 1 stick) 

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.  Butter an 8×8 baking dish, or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, add sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice.  Stir to combine, then transfer to prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, mix brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon and salt.
  • Pour melted butter over dry mixture to incorporate with a fork or even your hands. Spread topping over apples in baking dish.
  • Bake 40-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
  • Serve warm  with some vanilla  ice cream, or whipped cream.
